I am looking for a Mechanical Engineer II for a direct-hire position in Minneapolis, MN.

 Essential duties and responsibilities: 
  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine possible design improvements.
  • Help determine feasibility of designing equipment or modifying existing equipment considering costs, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range product engineering planning.
  • Confers with research and other engineering personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop/modify designs as required.
  • Prepares product or system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Prepares and compiles necessary calculations to support product designs.
  • Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to help establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to help determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Coordinates design efforts to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates/updates to technical lead and project engineers.
  • Perform and or direct engineering duties and subtasks in area of discipline of moderate complexity for a project or projects.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
 Supervisory responsibilities:
May provide work direction to designers.
 Qualification requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
  • The individual has learned and abides by established design practices and procedures to complete assignments.
  • The individual has learned and efficiently uses the necessary design tools as required for area of discipline. (AutoCAD 2D/3D, Solid Modeling, Finite Element Analysis, Pro-e, etc.)
  • The individual has mastered some of the application and integration design skills in area of discipline.
 The individual must be a fully trained and competent design engineer that is capable of some independent work.

Education:
 
  • The individual must have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and 3-5 years experience, or a MS and 1-3 years experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Computer skills: 
  • Computer keyboards and screens to access information needed to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
  • MS Microsoft Suite (Includes: Word, Excel, and Power Point) and MS Project
  • Working knowledge of custom software to include Dataworks, PDM, Track It, and Brio
  • General purpose engineering software relative to engineering group, such as CAD, Finite Element Analysis software and C programming language.
Language skills: 

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

·         Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 Mathematical skills: 
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations as relative to engineering practices.
  • Requires the ability to produce mathematical models and equations to support designs and solve these mathematical problems using algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
Reasoning ability: 
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
